Oh, well, I see: 'This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices'.

Why would I want all this stuff to be available on my phone?

I assume it will still be available on my computer via the website? Maybe I'm just overly mistrustful, but I find this hugely manipulative.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

        You don't.
        But they do.

For a more personalised service. Or data collection as it is also known.

Because then you could cycle round the park listening to Jazz Record Requests or Choral Evensong!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

As I've said, I'm a mono-tasker. I couldn't even drive the car and listen to the radio at the same time.

Just thinking about something Andrew said re mixtapes. What I want is to listen to something I've chosen to listen to, not to be introduced by a Radio 3 presenter to new things they think I would like. I want: index with name of composer > title of work > where to find it. And I wouldn't be able to cope with all that and ride a bike at the same time

Ooooh, Andrew! Since you mention it, I'll say this could be veeeerrrrry interesting!

Surely than what you need is a CD collection, streaming service etc and NOT a radio station ?

More or less. It's absolutely not a radio station, but there isn't a radio station that appeals to me. Any more.

I have the same problem - many's the time I switch off because of what I don't want to hear - I thought it was just me and my grumpy, age driven selectivity.

To quote the '118 118' advert: 'You are not alone (or a loan)'
Increasingly, radio accounts for less of my enjoyment of music. I have hundreds of CDs, and make a point of listening to all or part of at least 1 every day. Any that don't appear to have been played of late and no longer appeal are ruthlessly culled and carted off to one of our (many) local charity shops - where I regularly pick up more CDs to replace those of I've just disposed of (!). And there's lots to see on Youtube! I also enjoy live concerts put on by Music in Felixstowe.
(Having said that, I'm increasingly turning to '3 Breakfast' as an escape from the increasingly bizarre debate surrounding Br*x*t. But on most days, I very rarely listen to Radio 3 again unless there's a particularly interesting Lunchtime Concert).

Now I'm retired I have time to listen to a lot more radio. R3 before noon does not appeal and I rarely listen. This is when I play CDs or internet radio or maybe R4. From noon onwards R3 will often stay on till 5pm, if the content suits, as it will today, as I glance at the schedule:

Anton Bruckner CoW - really good listen so far this week
Lunchtime Concert - Schubert E Flat Piano Trio - I have several recordings on CD and must have played it dozens of times over the years but I'll still look forward to hearing a new live interpretation by young performers
Afternoon Concert - interesting enough programme of old and new, familiar and unfamiliar.
Choral Evensong from St John's Cambridge - not such an addict as some on here but I'll certainly stay tuned.
Brahms Violin Sonata - New Generation Artists get air time, as they surely should.
