    And there's more ...

Two national newspapers published articles following the arrest of a man over the killing of Jo Yeates which were in contempt of court, the High Court hears.

This is rather more than "an idiotic decision", or "duff note", or a single rotten apple, as you so lightly dismiss it. The organisation is rotten to the core. You are extremely naive if you think that Murdoch doesn't know what's going on in an organisation he still has tight control over.

And anyway, it makes no difference to my original point. Either way, he's not British, so your earlier question is redundant.
but the newspaper is, and it's editors & staff. Do they make you proud to be British?

I thought you were pinning the blame on Murdoch? Make your mind up!

Mr Pee is right that Murdoch cannot be personally held accountable for the phone hacking at NoW, etc but he is an extremely astute operator and also sets the 'tone' and exerts indirect (and sometimes direct) control over the News International titles. I would be very surprised if he wasn't aware of the practises that were commonly used by his tabloids. But then, perhaps I am wrong as the editors of the NoW seem to have been totally unaware of the methods employed by their own staff and free-lancers. Mine you, they are hardly likely to say "Yep, I knew all about that - so what.", are they?

I've heard it said that Ms Wade has been "shocked" to hear about what went on at News of the World while she was it's editor. And who can blame her when NotW has so long been known for its high standards?

I see Mister Ed has escaped from the harness long enough to clamber onto the Milly band wagon and described the story as "a stain on the character of British journalism". As leader of a party which has more or less sewn it's mouth around News International's arsehole, these are strong words indeed.

But as the owner of a paper - The unendingly disgusting Sun - which was the acme and epitome of despicable as I grew up, Murdoch to me is a vulture of a man, dripping with dirt.

PS: These bastards get my goat.

So the Camerons won't be spending Christmas 2011 at hers, I guess?

I would like to think so, but I doubt it. Look how quickly she climbed Murdoch's ladder.

She's now in charge of the internal investigation. You couldn't make it up.

It also appears that they were bugging a policeman.

In the light of the majority of views expressed on this thread, I thought that some of you might be interested in acting on your disquiet in a useful and hopefully productive way ...

Our 160,000 messages have further delayed Murdoch's BSkyB deal and helped push Cameron to announce 2 public inquiries into #hacking. Click here to send a message!

I've long felt that the worst advert for a 'free' press is the British one ... anyone who naively thinks it's only the Murdoch NOTW that is capable of such behaviour should wake up to reality. .Apart from the FT, have we now any national newspaper left in this country that simply attempts to report the news without a major 'sensationalist spin'?

Funny, when I was young, I was desperate to enter journalism, but in those days you had to know someone who knew someone, and I didn't.

                            A lucky escape ...

                                This morning's Indie

The News of the World interfered with the police inquiry into the disappearance of the Surrey schoolgirl Milly Dowler by hacking into her mobile phone, police sources have confirmed.
