    Murdoch hacking scandal latest

After reading this, would one (or more) of our erudute lawyer members care to run the 'public interest ' defence past me again, please?

An investigator working for the News of the World allegedly hacked into the mobile phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, a lawyer says.

Does this make any of our members (you know who you are ) proud to be British, I wonder?

What an odd question. Why should it? And anyway, the last time I checked, Rupert Murdoch was Australian.

Besides which, despicable as this act undoubtedly was, blaming Mr. Murdoch for every idiotic decision within his organisation seems a bit like blaming the conductor when a 2nd Violinist plays a duff note.
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

If it's true that they deleted messages in order to free up space for more - and by doing raised the hopes of her parents - then despicable would seem to be something of an understatement when describing their behaviour. Mind you, the then editor is a friend of the PM, so I expect _she's_ ok.

He's now an American. He changed his nationality to comply with US media ownership rules.

All I can say is that I am gosmacked. How anyone could defend such appalling behaviour! They really are dung beetles.

Never was the expression "the gutter press" more appropriate.

As always, right up-to-date, Mr Pee.

Rupert Murdoch became a United States citizen in 1985 to satisfy legislation that only United States citizens could own American television stations. This also resulted in Murdoch losing his Australian citizenship.

EDIT: Ooooops sorry Stunsworth - hadn't seen your post

Now James Murdoch has been extricated from the NOW management those left can be fed to the wolves - can someone remind me of Coulson's comment that the one case they couldn't immediately hush up was an aberration and that they didn't employ such techniques - with spin like that he would have done well in politics

Oh for the good old days, when the News of the World served the interests of the public with stories of call girls and spanking vicars.

Just because he's got a US passport doesn't make him American. He's Australian by birth.

And anyway, it makes no difference to my original point. Either way, he's not British, so your earlier question is redundant.

And American for commercial convenience, Mr Pee

The News of The World is a British newspaper.

                        Capisc'?

I'd disown it if I were British, which I am.
Society osteopaths and naval attachés indeed!

possibly better than the rancid smell of far rightwing politics that emanates from Murdoch's USA faux news channel - soon to replace the hived off Sky News (probably a loss making + I suggest unwelcome part which the crafty Murdoch and his tory cronies have seen as an easy (and lossless) way of avoiding Cable's worry over too much media power in one organisation)

Somebody just mentioned the good old days of the News of the World. Do you remember the phrase used in all their sex revelations ?

                              "Misconduct then took place "
