Apparently "gammon" is accepted as a new edition to the lexicon, as describing men (in particular) whose countenances take on a pink resemblance to the pork derivative when getting into arguments over Brexit!

Ah, but do they not also have to be arguing from the pro-Brexit side?

          Deleted. I misread
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Reminds me of the old Jewish joke about Chaim going up to the deli counter, pointing at and asking for "some of that nice looking salt-beef". "That's not salt-beef, that's best Wiltshire Ham" responds the vendor. "I didn't ask what it was, I just asked for some", replies Chaim.

                    It can get rather damp.

When my daughter was an au pair in the USA she was surprised to find that ham didn't seem to be off limits in the supposedly observant jewish household, but they wouldn't let her have bacon for breakfast when she asked. Go figure as they say.

Bit close to the bone there, Bryn?

In my experience, salt-beef is always off the bone but ham can be one thing or the other. Perhaps my experience of salt-beef is too limited, though I am more likely to eat it than I am ham.
