    Shahnour Vaghinag Aznavourian, RIP

    .

    Charles Aznavour...

I was taken to one of Aznavour's concerts as a young teenager. It's a shame I wasn't then able to appreciate his considerable talents.

    R.I.P.

Ah yes, the man with the quaver in his voice, and probably a few in the scores of his songs. He would never have got away with it other than in the French language, though, would he? (Q.v. one Bowie ).

That became the near-forgotten song from the film "Notting Hill", pre-Grenfell.

There were lots of French artists with chrismal back then... or artistes: Catherine Deneuve, Aznavour, Michel Piccoli... or was he Italian? I was very taken with that brand of French bourgeois taste, back in that pre-Marxisante era. Then I decanted.

Like Sacha Distel he seemed to be a stalwart of mid 1970s light entertainment . Cruelly called Charles Aznovoice by some at the time as I remember it ( or maybe that was just my Dad who is not a fan )

Apparently, he had not long returned from a tour of Japan .

                RIP CA.

According to the Officlal Charts Company, it was in the charts for 14 weeks, 4 of them at Number 1.

One of those singers ever present throughout my life - a great contribution to music. RIP CA. For the record I thought that Elvis Costello murdered ‘She’.
