Petroc informs us that Sir Adrian Boult recorded the 'Planets' suite 5 times. Are there other instances of a conductor recording the same work as (or more) frequently?
Is 5 'Planets' a record?

Just conductors? Not wishing to derail the thread so soon, but DFD made 7 recordings of Winterreise.... - examples of an artist having multiple thoughts over a long career?

There are many shorter pieces, for instance the English Folk Song Suite and Portsmouth Point, both of which he recorded three times.
In that list are pieces that Boult premiered (Planets, Job, RVW 6), and pieces he made the first recording of (A Shropshire Lad, Elgar 2).

I detect an idea that doesn't have much support in reality - that conductors 'choose' to record certain pieces. Not usually. Karajan and Bernstein had the clout to do so in later life - as did Carlos Kleiber. But with Boult, for instance, EMI made great play of the fact that his Parry record in 1979 would be his last and - wait for it! - Boult had been invited to choose the programme!
