I sometimes wonder what we wd do if the next car we buy, by some statistical fluke, happens to come with a plate that looks as if it were chosen, personalised...

Allegedly in Denmark number plates are completely depersonalised, and any indication of the date of manufacture or registration date is anonymised - perhaps by a randomisation process.

Presumably these could be depersonalised according to personal taste algorhythmically...

A delightful post but I struggle to understand the principle behind not owning an umbrella - an umbrella doesn't harm the environment and will stop you getting wet on the way to your destination. Mirrors also seem fairly harmless - do you include pools of water because of Narcissus?

Only swimming pools in people's back yards.

              A slave. Because I think it's wrong.

It's banned in lots of places in the world anyway.

Thank you Bella. I see that the OP was in September. In the end, I did buy slippers and have been thinking a lot about pyjamas so it does all still ring true. The problem with the latter is inner leg inflexibility on the part of manufacturers. Much the same is true of "joggers", not that these are essential. How Nike got where it did with a one size fits all, I will never know.

Surprisingly, I hadn't analysed my attitudes to umbrellas etc but many things I don't own would be classified as accessories. I am not very good at organising things about my person. Get in a muddle. Lose them very easily. I'm only organised when it comes to paperwork. My blue bank card, blue Oyster card and blue Tesco card are too much for me. Too much blue.

But there is also something about personal appearance and even image from way back. Umbrella, briefcase......a natural extension, it seemed, would be the bowler hat. I just didn't have the appearance for that role...…..or any other. Mirrors link with this. They encourage ideas of having a means of self-improvement as one sees it. Either I didn't see it or I did but other people didn't. That was then, But for decades now, I have felt that it doesn't matter to me and certainly know I am invisible to everyone else I meet. This is not better or worse.

Also, there is no role to fulfil so I prefer looking at the daffodils or the wildlife in any pond or lake. On one of my better days, I can stand on one of my legs there longer than a heron.
