No, going to Virgin. That should save the Beeb a bob or two.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Especially if, as has been mooted, they are considering appointing a woman to the job.

Eddie Mair is a FAR geater loss, IMO. And inexplicable.
        Is it money?
I mean on R4 he had daily time - or almost - publicly doing real fix jobs on politicians.......
I'd sack Humphreys like a shot and hire Mair for 'Today'.
        LBC.? I mean. blimey......................

Yes, what's the percentage pay gap at the mo?

I hope whoever replaces him is an improvement. He replaced Johnnie Walker on Drivetime R2 and ruined it, then he replaced Sir Terry on Breakfast R2 and ruined it - I just do not like his style though it seems many do. Ah well we'll see. If they are replacing him with a woman there's always SK or KD!

"Or BOTH, heh heh heh!" - as Dudley Moore put it in Beyond the Fringe.

I've never understood why the BBC ever employed him.

And they've totally wrecked Simon Mayo's Drivetime show on R2 by adding another presenter. Apparently huge volumes of complaints, so said a guest on WATO today.
                    It's a mess, a real mess.
I used the last half hour of the R2 drivetime show to escape R4's 'comedy half hour'. Not now...............

Zoe Ball probably - post-lad to post-ladette. Tony Hall said a few years ago that it was his aim to get more women on at breakfast time. He was speaking at the time of BBC local radio. But the ambition is now greater - he is going for a national network clean sweep. Martha Kearney is an improvement on Today imho……..just a shame she has to talk about the news. The nearest to Wogan may be Alan Brazil on Talksport as everything else has been jazzed up or newsed down. But he's not very close. Talks sport obviously, and no Tammy Wynette.
