The carol competition has made the 8 am news headlines.....

For many choirs/choral societies, rehearsals will start this week for their Christmas concerts; our does, but we're doing a World War I centenary concert on 1 December first: the carols come after that, thankfully.

There are valid reasons why Christmas comes early in some sectors of the musical world - doesn't necessarily make it any easier to tolerate! It did occur to me though that my dislike of rehearsing Christmas music has increased as the saturation of wallpaper seasonal muzak in shops etc has increased. Weekly earworm planting is bad enough but having no chance to flush them out(short of not going out for the 3 or 4 months before 'the day') is too much.

I feel sorry for the poor shop workers; such overexposure would drive me crazy. As mentioned elsewhere, one reason the BBC MM Christmas issue CD often never gets played is that I refuse to put carols on that early, and then I forget about it, as the next one has come along.

Our markets are mainly UK, but we do a decent amount on other English speaking countries, and other, mostly Non EU countries. Germany is our best EU market, but it is at very modest levels. Most of our printing is UK, or non EU.

Most of our non UK business goes through distributors/wholesalers who handle the admin side of things, and who are exceptionally efficient. So the answer is that I'm not sure, although no doubt our company policies now include in their " Emergency " sections provisions for how to deal with such an outcome.

I'd think we may well place our print orders for the spring with a degree of extra caution.
But in any case, I expect a free trade agreement of some sort to be in place, at least temporarily, and I feel confident that our own UK market and ability to supply is reasonably robust, for reasons I won't bore you with !

Even if the 'music' is of their general inclination hours of repetition are not the best way to enjoy it. With regard to Christmas music I find it rather odd, given all the knots 'we'(they) tie ourselves in over such issues, that it's considered acceptable to blanket broadcast Christian biased offerings, especially since the retail offerings managed to distance themselves from the sacred context many years ago.
