Early sightings of Rudolph, partridge, pear tree etc

Two mail-shots from national charities arrived this morning.

One began: "Goodness! It's been a long hot summer!"

The other began: "Christmas will be here before we know it".

And ended: "Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas".

And I've noticed that local branches of another, again national, charity, already have Christmas cards on sale.

    When will this nonsense end?

While on holiday in Scotland in the 3rd week in June, we popped into a charity shop to look for bargains CDs and DVDs. Were we perhaps a bit naive not to expect to find Christmas cards on sale?

I have just heard the first complaint about the early arrival of Christmas. Why cannot people defer these complaints until a decent date?

That's to make sure they aren't intercepted by French fisherpersons.

I wonder if 'pêcheurs' includes fisherwomen?

                        Email from Card Aid today...

"Only 117 days until Christmas 2018!"
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I don't suppose the speed of surface mail has changed that much since the days of empire and cleft sticks.....that's how long it takes! I generally send off a pile of Xmas cards to Oz (loads of rellies - their word - over there) by air mail at the end of November and they generally arrive in very good time. I don't send them presents, though.
