Here’s a Press Release about Simple Soap Folk in a London production in the 1920s:

UNLUCKY TO DIRT. The commodity which It Pays to Advertise in the new American farce of that name at the Aldwych is Thirteen Soap—so-called because is “ Unlucky for Dirt.” A soap magnate’s son goes into business rivalry against his father with this new brand of dirt destroyer. The Soap King doesn’t believe in catchy advertising; the son does and the Soap King is made to realise his mistake.

Just discovered this amusing thread . Amazing what you come across when just Surfing around.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A Dazzling response there, frenchie. Remember the old, pre-1975 days when some London buses were OMO? Then they became, quite rightly, OPO.

But the chemist in me is worrying that some folk can’t tell soap from detergent. Perhaps, they need a spell in Port Sunlight.

I'm concerned that any Persil beDazzled by the sometimes Bold wordplay might mistakenly believe they're Surfing a Tide of Omo-eroticism. There's Ariel danger they'd end up profoundly disappointed. Hardly Fairy in all the circumstances, yet their disappointment would be ineLuxable and require a Fresh Start from us all.

                      Just sayin'.

Whatever, if it drives a van through der Waals, it eases the tension at the Surf Ace.

                                It’s amazing what sells.
                                Here’s a soap ad. From 1879:

Notice to Emigrants.—For use on shipboard. Wilks' Scurvy Soap is the most refreshing and detergent Toilet Soap ; especially for families. You should not go without it. 6d. per Tablet, or in Boxes of 12 Tablets.—Chemist, Market Place, Burnley.— Advt.,

                                & don’t forget to suck a lemon!
