But Robert-le-Diable hasn't addressed the basic issue, which I raised earlier [ #18 ]. Andy Murray just isn't pretty enough (cf Federer, Nadal... )

I have to confes that that's my only reason for watching tennis. Hence my lack of interest in the ladies matches Mind you, some said that Pete Samprass wasn't very pretty, but he always rocked my boat. Here's a picture of him out-doing Charles Hazlehurst http://www.templetoncc.com.au/pete_sampras.jpg (well, you were warned )

I was staggered to learn recently that one of Andre Agassi's 'superstitions' was not to wear any underpants during matches. I wish I'd known earlier

And with the minimum of respect, Robert ... ?

At least it's nice to know that Andy Murray (probably by far the best tennis player the UK has produced to date) is hardly ever likely to become a 'gay idol'.

And I'm willing to bet no one's more relieved about that than Andy Murray ...

"Andy Murray has come out top of a list of gay icons in tennis. The young Scot now has is third title of the year to add to his two ATP tennis title he has already won this year.

The poll was conducted for dating site ‘gay-PARSHIP.co.uk’, they asked users to vote for their top male tennis pin ups. Spokesman Adrain Gillian said "He is slightly vulnerable. And there’s also something sexy about that Scottish accent." The fiery Murray topped a poll by gay Brits, beating Aussie Mark Philippoussis into second place by 4 percent. The 3rd, 4th and 5th positions were grabbed by Andy Roddick, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, respectively in the list of ‘Top 5 Male Tennis Pin-Ups’.

No scotty, I'd say the entire gay community in my flat (who they? Ed) would be pretty keen for your bonny wee laddy to be as hetero as you'd like.

I felt at this years Wimbeldon that until he had met Nadal(again in thye semis!!), that the opponents he faced, were rather 'easy', for him and any real player of stature, such as Nadal, he finds to much?

Well, he has beaten the likes of Nadal and Federer on quite a number of occasions and I don't think there are too many 'easy' games at Wimbledon.

Andy Murray is an intelligent guy and must know exactly what his 'problem' is at winning a Masters. Tennis, like golf, requires mental discipline at the pressure moments, and that's what he is constantly striving for, but surely his overall skill and ability is beyond any reasonable dispute ?.... just ask his opponents!

As my youngest sister in Glasgow says, maybe it is simply a 'Scottish' thing ... we love to challenge as underdogs and if we ever win anything we have lost that supremely romantic and traditional mantle forever.

I wonder what Sam Torrance, Bill Shankly, Alan Hansen, Sir Chris Hoy, Kenny Dalgleish, to name but a few, would say about this, scotty?
