There's a suggestion of secret vice here.

For all the good it did me, on many summer mornings, I went to the sand services at the Hoylake slipway with Jane and Andy Robertson. We went swimming after, I think, but I never knowingly saw the back of the baths. Was I missing something? I always seemed to be.

My most vivid memories of Hoylake baths are of the ferocious chill of the water - the extraordinarily, terrifyingly high diving boards - the strange blue rock fountain over which the water seemed to roll like a thick sauce - and of the toilets' utterly appalling smell.

Though I think Rock Ferry probably took some beating for unrelenting stench.

An investigation is launched after a collision between two classic US fighter planes during an air display show at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, Cambridgeshire.
