Not a fan - he should have stuck to Radio 5 - he was in the vanguard of the Radio 5ification of Radio 4 with Paddy O'Connell and Fi Glover . All irritating and lightweight.
I'm finding PM post-Mair very dull, I'm afraid - the first week or so, with Chris Mason and Simon Jack in the chair, made me think there might be hope, but it's lost its distinctive quirkiness under CQ.
Finding it a better listen without Mair....liked Mason, Jack and Sarah Smith....feel Jonny Dymond has habit of getting stuck in aggression mode....

Is PM the R4 equivalent of In Tune? News and what? Sounds a bit hybrid
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

it's a longer, drive-time version of The World At One - with room for slightly more stuff from outside the immediate hard-news agenda. There had been an increasing tendency to include some more magazine-y things in the last segment of the programme, like Steve Hewlett's cancer diary, or extended interviews with (for example) a woman whose son was on drugs, or something - those I was less keen on. There was also room for more extended background briefings on aspects of Brexit (from the excellent Chris Mason), that sort of thing. Definitely no music.
Eddie Mair did say (in introducing an item on alcohol, I think) that for many listeners he realised the programme coincided with wine-o-clock, but added that in the studio they started a lot earlier.

I gather Evan Davies is to take over PM. Musical chairs at the BBC?
Yes, intriguing choice, possibly right, but I hope with the right mix of seriousness, and sense of humour. And please, pleaase, keep holding politicians' feet to the fire.
....Evan rarely gets a coherent line of questioning/listening to answer/not interupting....one of the worst I'd say - by far....nice bloke....BASICALLY no politicians bother turning up to be interviewd these days....almost NEVER....[we asked the Ministry of Blaa for a Spokesperson -but none was offered]

It has been suggested that, by leaving the BBC for LBC, Eddie Mair was consigning himself to some kind of near-oblivion. The latest RAJAR figures show that LBC's weekly reach - and this is a national, not a metrocentric, figure - is greater than Radio 3's.

That's OK - R3 is "actual-oblivion"!
