Always thought it was a pub or a barmaid! ‘Made of Ale’ or ‘Maid of Ale’.

Well you're not far off - the area was named after a pub!

"The name is derived from the "Hero of Maida" inn which used to be on Edgware Road near the Regent's Canal. The pub was named after General Sir John Stuart, who was made Count of Maida by King Ferdinand IV of Naples and III of Sicily, after the victory at the Battle of Maida in 1806." - Wikipedia
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It remains a very stylish area, early Victorian white-stucco'ed villas and terraces, and my ambition is to head up there one warm and sunny day and laze around near the Regents canal with a glass of something watching the city relax. Why waste London when one lives in it?

... the walk along the Regent's Canal from Paddington all the way round to King's Cross is great. Various opportunities for drinkies en route - or take your own!

And good continuations eastwards - from Angel Islington all the way round to Victoria Park - Mile End - Limehouse; and westwards from Paddington to Kensal Green / Scrubs Lane - and further (Grand Union Canal Paddington Branch now... ) Perivale - Southall - Bull's Bridge - Hanwell - Brentford...

Plenty of fridges, bicycles, lawnmovers, car exhausts to see along the way?

And for a nice'n'lazy "slow London" experience you can take this narrowboat bus along the canal from the Maida Vale / Little Venice basin along through London Zoo to Camden Lock and back

You don't have to get off the boat!

There were some brilliant "I am a Lesbian" T-shirts for sale on one of the market stalls when last I was there - I nearly bought one! That was before the last big fire, whatever the cause of that was...
