    Good email providers

I’m looking for details of good email providers, preferably free, as mrs d’s talktalk based account is now proving to be very unreliable. Google is OK, but spies on conversations.

We/I want to be able to access via an iPad as well as via a webpage. Normally I use mail client software for email, rather than web based mail.

Thunderbird has been doing a good job for me for 6 years at least, Dave.

Surely Thunderbird is an email client, not a provider. ??!!

          Yes

          I'm puzzled by that
I use it in preference to Macmail

Yes I see - a mix up over terms on my part, for which, apologies.

you have to pay for a mail service - either cash for the service to cover the costs or by selling your secrets to that 'nice' Mr Google who obviously has your best interests at heart - how else did it get so much money other than protecting you from intrusive monitoring. Mind you there is Farcebook which obviously has even better protection for its users and makes sure you get your share of those specially scripted Ruskie sales pitches.

If you have a BT Business line, then btconnect comes as part of the package. So I suppose it's not exactly 'free'. It seems to work OK tho'

                  You might look at gmx.com
It allows webmail or downloads to client.
Lots of silly ads on the start page, but you don't need to see them to download or upload.
And you keep the same email address if you change broadband suppliers.
