    In those days, no particular announcer introduced the programmes, including Morning Concert; as kernelbogey has said above, it sounds like Peter Barker. There's a set of samples of announcers here

      Thanks for the responses. Based on this helpful link (http://andywalmsley.blogspot.co.uk/2...nnouncers.html) I'm pretty sure it was Tony Scotland I'm thinking of. There's some great voices there, quietly authoritative without a hint of forced joviality. Nice.
