For those who make music, Brexit must surely mean resistance, writes composer Christopher Fox.

"As Helmut Lachenmann once asked, when did we stop noticing that the percussion sections of European orchestras are museums of colonisation, with gongs next to xylophones, snare drums next to pod rattles? Or to take a current example, why does Ludwig Göransson’s score for Black Panther play safe, using a symphony orchestra to glue together the Africa Goes to Hollywood soundtrack, when the film’s storyline is such an unusual departure for blockbuster moviemaking, with its inversion of conventional First World/Developing World stereotypes?"

Does this not imply that the biggest problem in tackling insularity culturally has been the minimal or non-existent outreach beyond Europe? East-West Divan Orchestra, Dudamel and Sistema, Trelawny in Zimbabwe - these things have always stood out to me because I can think of so few other examples along their lines. He uses the word "world" a lot -"they are also telling us about how they see the world", "reveals a world view", "in this world it doesn’t matter", etc. On the world music forum, we talk about music from all around the world.

Seriously though, it isn’t very persuasive, is it?

      And that is being kind.

Plus it really is rather arrogant to tell people what they think , and why.

“ You say this , but what you really think is that.....”
