Errolyn Wallen on The Art of Now: Dangerous Places - R4 15 March

I caught this trailer this morning.

    Radio Times blurb:

    Radio 4: Thurs 15 March
11.30 am The Art of Now: Dangerous Places

Composer Errollyn Wallen meets artists working in places of conflict, violence and oppression around the world.

We often hear how art can help alleviate the scourge of war. Now composer Errollyn Wallen, who has worked with refugees from all over the world, hears stories about creative combat. Mazen Kerbaj is the author of the visual diary
Beirut Won't Cry, which records the Israeli bombardment of his city in 2006. Mustafa Staiti in the artistic director of Fragments Theatre, which gives young people the chance to perform in Palestine. "The drive to bear witness to the events of one's life and society is to me the wellspring of art," says Wallen.

Well worth a listen, I anticipate: Errollyn is a multifaceted and talented Belize-born black British composer.

Thank you for suggesting this programme.

I first became aware of Errollyn Wallen at the time of the London 2012 Paralympics Opening Ceremony for which she composed the affecting "Spirit in Motion".
