    I think you might be missing one key point about his system. It doesn't dribble out as it would under normal running conditions...a sure recipe for freezing..but comes out in one rush when the siphon kicks in. So hardly any opportunity to freeze.

      Not sure what a condensate Syphon is - is that part of the boiler (modern designs) or an external fitting? This page has some details, plus a joke - http://lovekin.net/condensate-drain-problems.html

        It's his own retro-fit. Just a siphon.
