Can’t folks just buy the papers if they want that stuff?
Reading the paper doesn’t give you the illusion that you are sitting with media personalities talking about themselves disguised as the press preview.

It appears that I was wrong about Luton - was only once but pretty serious when it happened as the scale of their deduction meant they had little chance of avoiding relegation to the conference. Bradford City have done it twice.

"Illusion"? "Media Personalities talking about themselves"? "Sitting with...!?" "Disguised as...? All completely wrong.
                You insult my intelligence here.

"READING THE PAPERS"....which are written and/or edited by many of the same journalists, columnists and editors who are regular contributors to those Previews, on both News24 and Sky. The difference is in the live debate between opposing viewpoints, chaired by a Newscaster/presenter who attempts some degree of balance, suggesting further angles for discussion herself. It works very well, often the only intelligent conversation I'll hear all day.
It's especially lively when Andrew Pierce (consultant ed., Mail, Brexiter) and Kevin Maguire (assoc. ed., Mirror, Remainer) are on Sky - a great double-act. The Telegraph's Tim Stanley contributes to both BBC and Sky regularly; I disagree with much of what he says, but his keen intellect and sheer articulacy impressed me enough to seek out his column in the paper itself.
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...

If "folks just buy the papers if they want that stuff", Alison, most of the Political Views and Choices are preconceived. Confirmation bias as I said above.

But after getting Mum safely to the bathroom and back and settling her down for the night, I thirst for this kind of programming and often listen to it (or Newsnight) as I sip some wine and prepare my own, routinely-delayed late supper.

It was (and may still be) on the main BBC News website (not just the Sports website). Hence my reference to navel gazing. An example of the BBC in love with its own output. (Gary Lineker in his undies is another - a much bigger story than the following soccer highlights).

The idea presumably of such content is to make us love the BBC more, but I'm afraid it makes me love it less.

Those inside that highly privileged ( paid for by us) bubble should consider very carefully how they present themselves and what they do.

The thing is I really don't think it used to be like this. Something changed.

I'm afraid that the Winter Olympics offer yet another example - by no means the only one and not necessarily the worst - of the BBC's deplorable habit of sending as many people as possible to cover the same event. Rugby Union internationals seemingly require 3 commentators and 3 studio pundits (plus a mainly redundant touchline reporter). Brexit stories usually get covered by the Europe editor (the excellent Katya Adler), the Brussels correspondent and quite often Laura Kuenssberg as well. There were 3 correspondents in Harare covering the departure of Robert Mugabe.
I don't know whether you remember the dreadful London Road murders in Ipswich? At the height of the coverage, 'Look East' sent a second reporter down to ask the first reporter about his activities during the day. There they stood, wearing their 'concerned' expressions, interviewing each other. Needless to say, another reporter was also lurking somewhere in the vicinity, having been sent down from London - the clear implication being that the local reporters were not up to the job.
There are people who suggest that BBC viewers who qualify for a free licence might volunteer to pay for it anyway. It may not come as a surprise to you that I'm not among them - they'd only waste the money.

Yes, and now at the centre of controversy! Was the Stone released before the HOGLINE?** Replays suggest it was! A refereeing decision as bad as a wrong offside call?*** Now there are demands for VAR in Curling too....
Never a dull moment in PyeongChang... tonight, the Free Ice Dancing...

**Curling has wonderful vocabulary all its own...

I especially like the Hogged Rocks and Shot Rocks...names to conjure with...

***But wait - the ref got it right after all, as the BBC2 Highlights Show has just demonstrated... the stone was touched twice at the release. So - Red Light.

I Just LOVE the Aldi commercials, with guest appearances from Torville and Dean and Eddie Edwards. To me, they epitomise the true Olympic spirit.
