Smallest city in Wales: St Davids (I beleive they've officially done away with the apostrophe). Population 1,600. City status awarded 1995. It has a cathedral.....

Smallest in area or smallest in population?

I think English is Wells - and Scottish St Andrews?

Yes, surely if the City of London is the smallest, London is the biggest?

                      .
The boundary commission in 1974 - much to the chagrin of the natives of Sutton Coldfield, but a Tory governmet decided it should be that way. Greater London is not a City but a collection of boroughs. When Maggie in her wisdom disbanded the GLC in 1986 she damaged London and gave Birmingham the edge as it could make decisions for what it did within its boundaries whereas in London individual boroughs made their decisions and for wider decisions on the area there had to be concensus of all boroughs.

The rest of London is not a city (apart from Westminster).

That assumes you rate the size of a city on its population, rather than its land area, of course.

I didn't (but then, I didn't get the right answers ) and Wells was the smallest except for the City of London - which, please, sir, I thought was an exception!
