David Mellor on that other station - anybody else a fan?

Always make an effort to listen to his show (he used to do two) seems to be a cut above the rest of their output.

We listen to his programme from time to time - even if, as at present, it's only while waiting for 'Endeavour' to start. His manner is a nice mixture of the approachable, the enthusiastic and the knowledgeable. Unlike certain Radio 3 presenters, he does not bully, lecture or patronise the listener, and he seems to have a detailed knowledge, and love, of his subject.
The only other daytime Classic FM show that we listen to is Alexander Armstrong's - probably because we're great fans of 'Pointless'. He also has what we consider to be a friendly but non-condescending manner, and the content of his programme is not that different from that of Radio 3's morning offerings.

I had the misfortune to run into this repulsive, mutli-bellied trousered ape at an opera festival last summer. Oddly enough, he wasn't wearing Chelsea strip.

As a presenter, he lacks depth of knowledge; as a critic, he is sneering and contemptuous towards those whose bootlaces he is not wothy of tying.

Absolutely no time for this relic from the age of the 'Cones Hotline'. He's not fit to broadcast his own burps.

He falls into the(fortunately very small) group of people that I simply can't listen to or watch(Michael Portillo is another) regardless of the merits or otherwise of what they are presenting.

I have a page full and it is increasing every day - I put it down to the intolerance of grumpy ageing - and that there are so many annoying people around!

Didn't DM 'do' a BAL some years back? I don't recall a return performance though.

Prefer him as a broadcaster than as a politician or a person. However, he and Simon Heffer are to RVW what Boris Johnson is to the Clash's "Sandinista!" and the average conservative Republican is to Springsteen's "Born in the USA". But then I think the conservative nature of Ralph's socialism is more likely to appeal to conservatives of all kinds than the modern liberal left or right. Attlee was a conservative in that sense. Not that I listen to Classic FM unless I am having a tooth out. The molar went to Brahms 3, Part 3 and seven commercials.

I used to (naively?) think that at least he was sh*gging someone in the theatre so he might, just might, be an ally for culture
BUT that was a rather foolish idea

                        Great spoons though

Don't know about 606 though he may very well have gone down. Toe sucker, IIRC.

I didn't dislike some of his CD programmes years ago. He's more knowlegeable than many.
