    Rocket Launch

    This is amazing - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-42969020

Not only the lift off, and the amazing speeds reached (watch the dials), but also the landings - quite "incredible"!

Absolutely. Watched it live...wish I'd been there..and hadn't expected the landings. At first I thought they were simulations but then reality set in and I was quietly gobsmacked.
Fewer Smart things. More smart people.

Basically, he's dumped a car in space. I thought there was supposed to be too much scrap metal floating about out there anyway?

Indeed - and he seems to have quite a few more life-changing plans up his sleeve...

What a perfect emblem of Western civilisation.

It seems entirely fitting that as human beings are to be replaced by robots, these preparations should be made for the robots to leave planet earth. It might well turn out in reality that what we all think of as nuclear armageddon is nothing more than a prescient symbol of this two pronged process of self obliteration. Given that I have always believed that outer space is a seemingly external but unquestionably illusory form of the human brain, the human brain is ironically likely to be the robots' ultimate destination in advanced space exploration. It satisfies me greatly that they will not only be very confused by being humanised in that sense but they will also feel a need to fly back to earth so that they can travel on buses again.

            One other thing.

In this age of gender equality, serious thought might be given to the phallic nature of space technology. There is a strong argument that this should remedied before further "progress"!

How might you wish to see this "phallusy" rectified?

Probably more curvature. If it can't be done for technical reasons, that's a small price to pay for the equality gains.

Incidentally, how many women - or people of ethnicity - did you spot in the cheering crowd at the end of the clip?

Music video by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark performing Tesla Girls. (P) 1984 The copyright in this audiovisual recording is owned by Virgin Records Ltd
