A very nice man but I can't go along with his enthusiasm for Armando Iannucci.

Much as my Mum points out that my Dad has modelled himself on George Roper, I feel that many MPs and their colleagues have modelled themselves on The Thick of It.

I think it was a self-fulfilling prophesy before it "became " one, Lats - the problem being that, as with "our boys in blue", too many believers had for far long allowed themselves to be misled.

Yes, but I was one of their servants for 25 years and never personally witnessed Armando Iannucci's extreme levels of swearing. All I had to do was pretend I didn't understand the term rendition flights and shake the hand of what might have led to a body at Harrowdown Hill. On the surface, they were more agreeable times. But I do admit I was sufficiently brainwashed to insist that the Americans and the Russians are our allies unless they turn totally into Germany in the 1930s. Ironically, today's bunch disagrees with me. Either they don't like Mr Trump or they think that Mr Putin is going to bomb them (the Swedes) or shut down all their energy plants (Mr Williamson who has a most unusual version of a brain).
