    Amateur_51: where is he?

Not spotted around these parts for a while. I hope he's OK?

    Last I heard - France.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      Crikey!

Many thanks for your concern Mandryka but, as ff says, I was in France for a week. very nice it was too, except for thwe biting insects - I appear to have the words 'Eat Away' tattooed on my body

Anyhow, I'm back, refreshed and still in love with our near neighbour, even though their post offices appear to close at 11:30 and most local shops are run not for profit or the convenience of the community but along more esoteric, less obvious lines

It must be heartwarming to know that if you pop off for a few days you spark the forum equivalent of an all ports alert, eh, Ammy?

A propos of which, does anyone know what's happened to Simon? Last heard of on 20 April and apparently heading off towards Asiatic regions. His last post said "Changed flights to allow me to link up with a colleague". All very mysterious. Let's hope we don't see his name suddenly popping up in the news as being the centre of an inquiry by Thai police, or something...

Oh, very droll! Well, it made me laugh.

Ams, nice to see you back. We have missed you regarding AA which has hit the doldrums big time. Incidentally, did you indulge in any petanque whilst you were away? I could do with some pointers on the game.

AA has gone quiet, hasn't it?! Everyone watching Wimbledon??!?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No interest at all in Wimbledon, never watch it. I've been busy, tying up loose ends prior to going on holiday on Friday. Not sure where everyone else is but the whole MB seems very quiet lately.

"AA" - Surely not Alcoholics Anonymous?

                    Anyway, Am's back now

I'm glad he's alright. I thought perhaps his lovingly stored mountain of back issues of the Guardian might have toppled over and crushed him.

Hello Anna! No petanque no nuffin' like that, just reading, chatting, eating & drinking, running out of petrol on the motorway, getting caught for speeding by a twinkly French traffic cop on a motorcycle - I don't drive but mes amis mates do.

Oh and a car boot sale where we found some wonderful home-made apricot jam, made Bonne Maman look pretty pale in comparison.

Oh and some deelish wine tasting in sundry caves in Vacqueyras - yummola!

Sorry to hear that AA has gone quiet - I must say I rarely understand the clues these days let alone have a sniff at an answer

Every cloud has a silver lining, eh

Getting down and serious with the Vacqueyras sounds terrific
