    R4 Logitech problem

For the last few days I've not been able to pick up R4 on my Squeezebox. Seems odd, as I can get R1 to 3 inclusive, and 4LW up to R7.Something wrong with one or more of the R4 streams perhaps. I tried disconnecting, turning power off etc., but fault definitely on this R4 stream. Just says "Buffering 28%".

I've just tried Triode's iPlayer plug-in (which I always use for BBC Radio) and Radio 4 live is fine on that.

      Thanks for this.

Not sure why the standard app doesn't work - it's only R4 which is affected. Still locked up right now. Gone back to CDs!

Maybe when the next mini work crisis passes I'll check all these things out.

        Dave,

Which stream does the app that you use pick up?

As you know, Triode's excellent plug-in uses the aac streams by default and includes the Radio 3 HD live stream.

I don't know - just the ones the SB3 picks up naturally. If I use Triode's plug-in do I have to have my server on? I often work without that operating as it uses around 80 Watts.

Maybe I'll have to write to Logitech about this.

The Triode plug-in is for the Squeezebox Server but you should be able to listen to Radio 4 logged in to Sqeezebox.com instead.

Quite. I was able to do this until only a few days back. Now it doesn't work, but only affects R4.

After several days the problem seems to have cleared up.

I've had sporadic problems of this nature before with the r4 stream on Logitech and have talked to Triode about it - he seems to be the lead developer responsible for BBC radio access on the Logitech devices (to the best of my knowledge).

His theory, after some investigation, is that this is actually a BBC network problem,as far as I understand, it runs out of bandwidth (I apologise for the high-level nature of this but that's the best description I can muster) and, having corresponded with him on many issues for quite a while (especially Spotify...and, in fact, I was also part of the beta for Logitech iPlayer) I am sure that he is not passing the buck.

Of course it is impossible trying to raise any support from BBC people (I say this in the hope of being proved wrong).

What I usually do is switch to r4 LW for a while....

There is also another issue where the BBC tech. support staff don't update the XML feeds so you find programmes 'missing' on the iPlayer via Logitech, yet there via 'normal' (any supported browser) iPlayer. Irritating..

Does any of this help Dave2002?

Thanks. It at least gives some plausible explanations. This problem has only happened once in a couple of years to my knowledge, so it's not too serious now it's fixed. Hower, broadcast radio is orders of magnitude more reliable!

Sadly I agree - where we live we can't get DAB; I don't know if we will ever be able too. So Logitech will be my mainstay come the demise of FM (IF it ever happens)...so I'm kind of interested in how good it can get. Of course, the other alternative I should have mentioned was a certain r3...
