Somewhat overshadowed by the sad news of Robert Hardy's death announced on the same day. James Shelley, Ricki Tarr, Mr Croup, Arthur Fitton, Edmund Bickley ...
Hywel Bennett (1944 - 2017)

Yep.....one has to speak truthfully. This news means slightly more to me than the death of Robert Hardy. Shelley.......much better than just ok.......in the golden age of sitcom. ITV, of course, when doing its best and often doing it very well. His face, as born, and his way.......so distinctive and very sixties in the best sense so actually that series came late. I think he was substantial. That persona was so. I think he could have achieved much more but then I say that not knowing very much of what he actually achieved. Not having done the maths, I was a little surprised that he was so so young and so old and still living until the news broke. That unusual out of time aura as it worked in various ways suggests a certain greatness.
