    Membership of musical Societies / Clubs

    How many and which musical Societies do our Forum members belong and/or subscribe to?

    I am a member of:

    The British Horn Society;
    The British Flute Society;
    The Peter Warlock Society (currently circulating its 100th newsletter) and
    The International Horn Society.

    Two famous English jazz musicians I just happened to know, , one of them very sadly no more, belonged to the Peter Warlock Society, and on one of its open days we visited St Mary's Great Warley, in Essex, just off the M25, where Warlock used to visit to play the organ from time to time - the Heseltines owned the land on which the church, which has a very beautiful Art Nouveau interior, is located. While we were there a delighful elderly lady who could have come out of one of the Miss Marples stories played the famous 3/4 movement from the Capriol Suite.

    I don't personally belong to any societies or clubs; I used to be a member of The Vortex Jazz Club in Dalston, but dismembered myself when they massively hiked the membership fee some years ago, by which time I was not going there often enough to merit the however many visits per year it was that one enjoyed entry reductions for.

      I help run the Truro 3 Arts music society which puts on 6 chamber music concerts every winter (October to March) http://www.truro3arts.co.uk/

      Thought I'd bought life membership of the Percy Grainger Society about 30 years ago, but haven't had any updates from them for ages. Does it still exist?
      I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

        The only one I keep up with is the Dvorak Society. Tempted by several others though.

          I am a member of both the Alkan and Liszt Societies but that's all! I wish there was one for really obscure 19th composers however that particular remit might be too large!

          I remember meeting someone who I was later told was the "Godowsky Society"...
          Best regards,
          Jonathan
