Chris Evans makes a mint for talking rubbish all the time!

I'm surprised that so many of these folks are employees in the first place
I would have assumed that the likes of Chris Evans is working for his own independent production company

Not all programmes go out for tender in the first place. They're BBC produced so they pay the presenters.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I guess the fact that this is only representative of those programmes made in-house then it's pretty meaningless anyway

Interesting indeed. The media is, of course, sticking to its usual knee-jerk PC stuff, apart from the DM of course!

Mishal Husain is on considerably more than Justin Webb so the gender/race argument espoused by some here is clearly nonsense. Of course only staff at the BBC know what each actually does for their money so Ms Husain may actually warrant the premium though that of John Humphrys does seem somewhat excessive!

The problem is not really engrained discrimination so much as the size of salary within a tax-funded public company for some, whether those happen to be men or women.

I'd rather not comment on those of Evans and Lineker ... not their fault, of course, I'd grab the money as well in their position!

I don't think that this is what MrGG means, which (if I understand him correctly) is that, to contract the services of Chris Evans (or whomsoever else), BBC would contract one of his companies rather than approaching him direct and putting him personally on a contract of service.

Very common practice in the BBC and elsewhere.
I once had to deal with the tax affairs of a very high profile ex footballer, who had been captain of England.

He was showing zero income, and I knew for a fact that he had been coaching at a London club that I won't name. This particular chap was a smart cookie, and looked after his own affairs, and he was supplying coaching services to the club via one of his companies, and drawing only dividends , IIRC. He certainly wasn't paying PAYE tax , or in fact any direct or company tax.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Ah, yes. If I remember correctly that was the position with Jonathan Ross when his pay was leaked as £18m - being a contract for 3 years arranged through his company.

                      Just remembered this story:

Corporation hits back at Tory MP's claims, saying that existing policy is an industry-wide practice endorsed by the government. By Mark Sweney

There's a difference between a freelancer invoicing the BBC for the agreed amount of pay through a company when the company incurs no expense at all. In that case the amount the BBC is handing over is just the presenter's pay and can't be disguised in some global sum for pay, overheads, stationery, electricity, Letraset &c. which only the company knows.

He and his pal Russel Brand started a public relations company...

Well, ok, then, on Andrew Neil who works more hours than many do. I didn't spot that he was on the list. All of the others I have mentioned were not on the list. Some hours on, my conclusion on the gender pay gap and other differences is that the discussion in the media is not persuasive. We would only know the true picture if we were permitted to take the salaries paid for work in all the programmes into account. Mary Berry, anyone? As for one of the biggest paid men, football fans with long memories will recall that he wasn't able to use his voice when originally on radio with any conviction and felt he had to take lessons after the start of his broadcasting career. A case of "talent" acquired rather than being natural.
