Well, there'll be no more surcharges for card payments from next January.
But of course:
...some commentators said they expected that many companies would simply hike their prices to compensate for the loss of this money, or change the name of the fee...

Still, if including it in the general price ends the silliness of adding these annoying little extras just as you reach payment time that, to me, will be something of an advance.
It's the appearance of honesty and transparency rather than the cost of the fee itself which is the main point, I think.
