No, no.....it is just that there is a number of possibilities rather than a number of possibilities minus one.

Whatever the origins, the points about the construction are wholly appropriate to pursue as is happening.

I'm not sure that your "Round Britain Quiz" cryptic statements are meaningful to others
there are some things that are abundantly clear in this case (as was discussed on R4 at 9am this morning)

If Lat Literal can be charged with making statements one has to struggle to assimilate, he's not alone among regular posters on this board.

(And just to say, yes - I understand what you are driving at Lat-Literal. Perhaps Personal Messaging would be useful?).

That is a very good idea, yes.

              As a general principle.

While not wishing to reopen this discussion, a brief word on one human angle. I have been in e-mail correspondence today with a very good friend. He is a middle ranking civil servant who ordinarily suffers a lot from work related stress and at 53 his health is deteriorating. He told me that it has all got a lot worse because he has been placed on work concerning Grenfell Tower. It is harrowing. The hours are long. He is now required to be in the office on Sunday mornings. When he returns to his home - where he lives on his own - it is a home in a modest London tower block. This, I think, drives a coach and horses through simplistic political messages about an "us" and "them" although in the case of the bigwigs they are true.
