Another mild day, especially after lunch when the sun finally triumphed over the murk. Sadly the forecast for tomorrow still doesn't look too good for my regular volunteer gardening slot, but as it has improved since this morning in terms of timing and percentage risk of rain, I'll take a chance. There are more quinces to be collected if they've fallen or picked if not and that won't take too long if conditions don't favour anything else.

What the Met Office was saying about a vortex sweeping across the UK today? Continuous wind and rain!

Miore than half an inch from that overnight cold front, much to my surprise. Since when, it's turned showery and quite blustery, with one gynormous cumulonimbus passing just to our east at midday spitting large drops onto us from its edge, but no lightning recorded, despite showing a very ominous dense black curtain of heavy rain and probably hail. Right now we have the unusual spectacle of a rainbow to the north in otherwise almost clear blue sky, indicating large amounts of leftover drizzle from surounding showers. Views of the London Eye from here continually disappear and then reappear as each sector of rain sweeps through on this vigorous southerly.

This looks like the pattern for the next week or so, but with nights cold enough to require having the heating on.

W/SW wind, billows of deep and lowering cloud, fells now virtually invisible, fine rain that gets into / through everything in minutes, not cold.

Difference of opinion yet again between Met Office and Beeb forecasts. I went with the Met version which proved to be pretty accurate with the rain lessening fairly early, and clearing completely mid morning. Mild again and some sightings of the sun. Most of the garden team stayed away but I took my friend in and we had a productive - if rather muddy - morning.

              Thanks SA.

Have the Beeb ended their contract with a The Met yet?

              Sunny and cloudy today.

Absolutely lovely mild and sunny day in central London today, easily warm enough to eat lunch in the park.

Not sure about the air quality, seemed ok.

Had to pop up to the Euston Road area, not my favourite part of London, though the British Library is a lovely oasis.

Yes, must be a year ago now. Big mistake, many are now saying.

Just about the worst air quality anywhere, on average, there!

On 6th February this year, to to my surprise: I'd thought it was longer ago than that.

Can't find the blog post you're looking for? Some of our older posts have been archived and were not moved across to the Met Office website when we moved the blog.

Ever been to Leeds? Smaller city, but reminiscent of London in the 1980's It's the sort of place that's most easily accessible by car. They're working on it, though
And the tune ends too soon for us all

Isn’t it that strange little place 30 miles north of Sheffield?

Not a good day by the looks of it. Doesn’t look very inspiring at all.

Strong winds last night playing tennis but a most bracing run-out. Wind can be fun if you can harness it to your shots appropriately. So stiff this morning I could hardly walk down the stairs.

Oh, bad luck, Bbm - the Autumn colours here are breath-takingly gorgeous: the light from the Acer is making the front room glow!
