Yep, Mars evernyight recently, yo-yoing along the tops on the horizon.

PS Red moon / Mars - with Mr Trump in the White House, who knows? War? Rows? Intrigues? Lies? Resignations? Deceptions? Sackings.

    Best soap on TV.

    .......................ahem.

It started raining here on and off at 3.53pm.

Heavier now but somehow still not convincing.

Since when has Welsh become the default language for the BBC weather? I've been searching for recent weather reports(since the much trumpeted storms have yet to materialise here, despite some halfhearted thunder grumbles and a bit of grey cloud at about 3-30) using the nearby city for location purposes and that was what the Beeb offered. Mind you, even without using the translation service(!) I could tell that the info was no use for my purposes - no surprises there then.

The last mini-thunderstorm brought the temperature here down from 31 C to 25 C in a matter of minutes, but unfortunately skyrocketted the humidity levels, so it now feels like a sauna out there. Great cloudscapes - surface-based and elevated convection respectively producing some nice low-hanging cauliflour cumulonimbus and altocumulus castellanus, which I call bubble wrap cloud. But thank heavens, garden irrigation efforts now end, and things should be back to normal tomorrow morning!

I didn't think Limpet Toothpick's girlfriend was still presenting the weather!

The rain, thunder and what not forecast for 4.00 p.m. onwards here on the Suffolk coast has now been rescheduled for 8.00 p.m.

That means it'll hang around here for longer then.

Ooh - she's a long-ago "ex", S_A: there's been at least one Cheeky Girl since then.

For a moment I thought you were talking about Gabriela Irimia. The great news, according to OK Magazine, is that she and Monica are back together as the Cheeky Girls and they are hoping to make a celebrity comeback. Sadly, I am unable on this occasion to confirm whether they have both been in touch with Miguel "born of the loins of 70s Havana" Mantovani.

Ah yes, that is the one - you are so well informed, ferney.

They have indeed. I've lost count of the number of times thunderstorms and torrential rain have been forecast up here since the heatwave began, only for neither to materialise. There were a few desultory drops of rain this morning (out of a blue sky!) but the heatwave is allegedly due to end here tomorrow with temps plunging 10 degrees or so. We shall see.

The heavens opened just after 8.20 p.m., knocking out our Freesat signal just as the Lark finished ascending.

Lightning on Pennine across on West Yorks tops, but here in western facing Pennines so far not a drop.
Sultry as hell, but ................no rain. Or actually any thunder.

                          Smoke and mirrors? Or.................??

..........and literally ten mnutes later...........the heavens opened!

Ah, the sound of the earth drinking!

We had a few claps of thunder, a couple of lightning strikes, a bit of rain and that was it!!!! A bit cooler today methinks.

And how! Had to face a near-gale just now on the way back from the shops! Looks like a rare event tomorrow for this summer - a wet and windy day! Which means laundry in the spin dryer instead of on the line; but at least the sheets get a nice ironing.

Make the most of these cooler conditions while they last until Weds, after which it's destined to warm up once more, although not as intensely as last week.
