Hot, sticky(why, when the humidity levels are so low today) overcast - not nice. The wind has dropped right away so no relief from finding a wind tunnel, and not much from the shade either.

Still a scorcher up here - no major rain since late April, and not even light rain for a month.
Easterlies continue to dry everything. Garden pots / plants drying out so fast as many are struggling to bloom.
BUT early aftrenoon, and cloud masses seem to be gathering from NE. Could it actually be.............????

22 here today in West Lancashire on the Ribble estuary. Another beautiful day with blue sky but it feels hotter than the temperature given.

I don't know about where you are, oddoneout, but here humidity levels are considerably higher than at any time thus far during this heatwave: 59% coupled with a shade temperature reaching 29 C an hour ago. Apparently the heavy showers down Sussex way aren't making any difference by bringing in fresher air; knowing what 98% humidity at these temperatures is like because, being equivalent to what one finds in Singapore or much of the Amazon's rainforest, those are the levels kept up in the Tropical House at Kew, I think I'd prefer being put in a drug-induced coma for the duration than experiencing the associated sweatfest!

The humidity was high overnight(around 90%) and as the temperature rose it went down apparently - to 40% mid-afternoon- so with a night low of 13 degrees that explains the heavy dew, but the current stickiness seems odd if humidity levels are that low. The thermometer reached 43 degrees early afternoon which, even allowing for where it is, is a bit excessive.

Same here and I'm not a million miles away from you. Put my thermometer in direct sunlight at 16.10 this afternoon and the temperature shot up to 50 degrees very quickly!!

Not nearly as uncomfortable as yesterday, though, as with a bit of breeze humidity levels were somewhat lower, though it did nearly reach 29 C this afternoon as I was panting my way back up the hill on two wheels with a backpackful of groceries from E Dulwich!

Sounds like Lewisham in 2002 when the unremitting heat carried on into August. Our compost heap went into meltdown and somebody was trying to fry an egg on the Albert Hall roof during a performance of the Alpine Symphony

Quite oppressive in the Isle of Wight yesterday. Supposed to be cooler today. We have the Round the Island Boat Race today!

Temperatures everywhere should be back down to July normals on Tuesday, thank goodness! How have others coped, if at all? One suggestion has been to place a bowl of ice in front of a fan and blast away! I've only just about managed to keep things comfortable in the flat by opening all windows wide at 5 am, fanning doors to try and create a bit of a through draught, and then closing windows, curtains and blinds during daytimes. Still no sign of any rain to speak of, though I see there's been a bit of a shower over N Kent earlier on.

Cloudless, close and sticky even up here in the fells, airless. Breeze dropped too.

Another glorious, cloudless day here and a fierce burning sun. I just love it like this and don't at all mind the warmth indoors. The Temperature in my listening room at this very moment is 28.7 C and I'm happy with that.

Any humorous nominations for a Minister for Drought in order, as in 1976, to prompt the heavens to open?

I think I will now set the Rain Drum to work which I brought back from Mexico a few years ago. The Mexicans swear by it and who knows, it may work. Watch this space.
