It feels very hot to me.

    I'm not enjoying it.

There was a similar type of storm which hit Plymouth almost exactly a year ago. Oh here we go, round 2 right overhead here now. One or two thunderbolts within a mile shaking the floor. That Blitzordnung radar map looks as if someone is splashing tomato seeds in clumps all over the area! Some of the observers have decided to close down for the night, but I'm not too worried as most of the lightning is of the ribbon and sheet kind, the high cloud base making bridging to earth more difficult than in your textbook surface-generated storms. Count Basie and Lester Young on Radio 3 to occupy the next hour!

Yes - it's back here as of about half-past midnight, amazing strobe-effect cloud-to-cloud lightning and torrential rain...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Cali, I only heard a couple of rumbles, in the distance. Grr!

You missed quite a show. Someone posted this, which illustrates the effect....

Warm and still this morning, with blue skies - let's see what builds up later - there seems to be a total divergence between forecasters: BBC weather indicates storms from 2 - 9pm alternating with sunny intervals, whereas the Met Office suggests wall-to-wall sunshine/light cloud (despite an adjacent 'yellow warning for rain' )

Thunder, lightening and lashing rain our way too last night.

It certainly seems to have been quite spectacular. I managed to avoid it - just; I could see plenty of lightning on the Welsh side of the Black Mountains but we had none in western Herefordshire.

I can't help but think of all that wasted electricity! If ony it were possible to harness and store it. Maybe one day it will be...

My next-door neighbours have placed two children's windmills outside their window, and I have suggested to them to try connecting to the network!

Weirdly, up here, not a hint, not a drop, not a lightning strike, but huge wind and plenty of sun.
Best wishes to all darn sarf.

Thanks! The washing on the line refuses to dry, the drying area being under 3" water from last night's downpour. The neighbours needn't have bothered filling their kiddies' paddling pool. At 24 C, with big cauliflour cumulus build-up and practically no air movement, it feels like a steam bath out there today. I might just take a walk in a while... a slow one!

!!! Seriously, though, it would be great if it were indeed possible to harness those immense amounts of electricity for the good of so many!

Surfing that particular surge is riding on the wings of the storm.

Not recommended. Icarus didn’t make a big splash in the end.
