March has been the wettest for 40 years, apparently - confirming the increasing polarisation, alternating between lengthy rain-bearing and dry weather régimes. Here we are now in the wake behind the latest deep low, which tracked across the Midlands this morning, dragging a couple of occluded fronts south-east across the country, with accompanying bands of rain, some of it pretty heavy, as just now. I think I'll put off that grocery shopping trip until tomorrow!

Turned out somewhat better than expected. The morning rain was brief light showers, and it was mild, so the trip to town wasn't too bad at all. The sun showed up at times in the afternoon and the rain had cleared - except for the end of my bus journey following a food shopping trip when, due to incorrect timetable info, I had to walk home from a stop much further away than usual as the rain set in with intent. Never mind, better to be getting wet going home than elsewhere.

DRY start, cloud gathered, then thickened and lowered, and temp is now dropping appreciably into a yukky anonymity. Cold night ahead, and oh yes, the winds? A RAW NE, and, up here, NE winds mean business!

Just started raining heavily here. Yesterday it was at the very least spotting all day and I didn't go for a long walk because of that. The forecast for today suggested something similar but I've been out for a couple of walks and it was quite nice with some sun. Seems the rest of this week will be alright...

I just managed to get back from Brixton shopping session as large raindrops from the first of two afternoon thunderstorms broke. The forecasters were right! Dramatic double rainbow, set against the dark grey of the retreating second of those, now to the east.

Decidedly lush and mild on my walk today. Didn't get caught in rain too which was good.

Yesterday was billed in advance as being the warmest day of the year so far, a pretty low bar one might have thought, but in any case it completely failed to deliver. Both Friday and Saturday were far better with much spring sunshine but yesterday was mostly cloudy with a stiff breeze.

Hefty showers this morning but the sun is out now. Temperature 11 degrees.

Rain started later here than originally forecast - early morning rather than during the night - and just got wetter and wetter. It only stopped about an hour ago. The sun is out and the strong winds will help to clear some of the worst of the surface water; we might catch some of the remaining wet blobs as they move across but with any luck they'll be shortlived.
I have a couple of windowsill propagators( narrow with module inserts in a waterproof tray and a clear cover to go over) of seedlings that went outside over the weekend and I forgot to cover them last night as I knew it wouldn't be frosty. I forgot about the rain... Have had the inserts inside on newspaper to mop up the worst of the waterlogging and now they're out again for the sun to do its bit. Must remember to cover them again tonight in case of further rain.

We had hail and thunder around lunchtime (just got my first lawn cut done in time) and it's now raining.

I watched those storms as they paraded across Lancs and Yorks around lunchtime - they looked quite severe, and there was even talk of funnel clouds being observed. Down here, persistent mainly light rain in association with the main Atlantic frontal system cleared at midday to a breezy afternoon with just a few short-lived showers, so far. Tomorrow night and into Wednesday we need to be prepared for some very strong winds, possibly severe gales for Wales and the SW in particular, and plenty more rain - again with showers to follow, and it looks like low pressure remains in charge for the end of the week as the jet stream eases. Beyond that is still, as they say, up in the air!

Chilly, wet, westerly wind has teeth, depressing after some lovely stuff before.

Fortunately most trees have some distance to go to full foliation, otherwise we could be talking of considerable damage after tonight and tomorrow's expected gales. Batten down any hatches, nevertheless.
