Would I be right in thinking you had quite a lot of the white stuff up your way, yesterday, Joseph K?
Not to my knowledge. It was very windy and rained until the late morning. There may have been some snow very early this morning according to the forecast but I never saw it.
About an hour after my rather glum post above I checked again prior to venturing out(to decide on level of waterproofing required and found the forecast had gone back to last night's version, although with the timings pushed on a bit. So - dry, lots of sun and blue sky although rather a chilly wind, so far. Rain is expected at the end of the afternoon, and it's due to be cold overnight; I'm hoping it doesn't actually freeze to any extent as I have to take the car out earlyish.
Splendid cumulonimbus, swirling up into glaciated heights and captured in this photo not half an hour ago - I just did a circular walk around the block to see them to the east of here as they trundle down on the gentle nor'wester. Probably cold enough to be giving soft hail, but at 6 degs C not sufficiently for snow.
Now, shoals of stars - frost predictable.
Phew - will make getting to the market on frozen pavements tricky tomorrow!
All being well it should have warmed up considerably by now in your neck of the woods! Three hours' worth of moderate rain from an overnight frontal system left hanging around here has cleared in the past hour; the wind has veered around to the SW and we have a sky 2/3 covered with puffy cumulus, which are forecast to puff up considerably more and deliver showers later this afternoon. Much the same is predicted for tomorrow, with a window of fair weather to follow on Sunday, and then a return to milder south-westerlies for next week, with varying amounts of much-needed rain.
Fairly pleasant kind of day today, much of the sky covered with stratocumulus and cumulus, but mild with any brief sunny intervals, and the relatively dry air should take most of the damp out of the washing on the line. However, next week will probably see rain on most days as the Atlantic jet sets its course across the south of the country, and a queue of primary depressions traverse Scotland, keeping things mobile: very much Equinox weather. Average daily maxima are now 12 C around the Home Counties. Tuesday into Wednesday will probably be windy for most, with gales affecting Scotland and N Ireland.
Very blustery today, and now we have middle-height cloud spreadiing in from the SW, with expected light to moderate rain to follow until late. But at least it's still mild for late March - touched the 60 C mark here yesterday - though come the weekend Saturday promises to be continuing the showery theme, Sunday cold and wet all day, and Monday still cold and rather wet & windy, but only temporarily before it's back to now.
