Nondescript weather here today - just off for an anti-shingles jab at the local surgery. Sandy beaches not on offer, however!

....................and just as the local schools finish for the day, scuds and swirls of fiercely driven icy rain sweep off Morecambe Bay and whistle up and then down the fell scarps to soak the kids, parents with buggies with tucked-in lucky tinies.
Hey ho.............at least it's almost Feb!

But we certainly had some wind here.

And maxima of up to 14C are being predicted for some parts of the SE for tomorrow, so I might take the bike out for a longish trip, though I doubt if it will get higher than 12C in this area. After Sunday it's all downhill, with night frosts returning, but also sunny days. Swings and roundabouts...

Cloudy, and likely to stay so until tomorrow.
But at least it is not cold - the wind as dropped right down - and on my way home up the seemingly never-ending incline from Penge I had one of those moments when everything I'd been striving to get my head around suddenly clicked into place. As the Taoists and Zen Buddhists have it, everything is interconnected - we usually struggle to find the interconnective words and concepts to articulate this insight. Events, dear boy, events, as Karl said, happen before we take them in - to which Shogun and the other ancients who thought in similar vein would have said, we need another referential perspective, different from words and even mathematics, to at least lend us a sense of proportion... and he would start from there. Marx would come back at this point and tell me, "Your tale of problem solving by itself comes back to MY original point about why it is that it is nearly always from the ranks of the RULING class, rather than, as you might think, the toilers, that progressive new ideas come. See, the man (usually it was the man) of leisure can eat the breakfast dutifully placed before him, and then take a stroll around his deer park. During that stroll, it's amazing how matters that may have been troubling him - (for instance how to address the king when asking if he can borrow the court jester for a fortnight to help make his holiday from himself) - have all come together to form an integrated picture - one which, like a single repayment scheme, can be dealt with at a stroke, if you'll pardon the expression. And what did you find the moment you arrived home? My betting is that no sooner had you unloaded your back pack, stashed the food merchandise into your various storage facilities, and washed up those breakfast dishes, all those lovely ideas had simply evaporated, gone... gone from the forefront of your mind - which you would have unburdened onto the parchment, had you not been plagued with the pressures of everyday things having to be done, but for which HE can afford servants. And now, place yourself in the mind of the working dad or mum, whose constant thoughts have, of necessity, to be concentrated on doing his or her master's bidding before counting the shekels, or be out of job and home. NOW, you see, you can understand how come it is the rich man, with time to think about these things, who can build up a picture and think through how to solve the problems it serves up". And, you know, he was right about that!
