Thick fog all day today, maximum temperature a fraction above zero I would think, judging by slight moisturization around some of the frost patches on the ground and on parked vehicles; the local woods looking quite eerie as I took an after lunch stroll of about a mile in the gathering gloom. A little symbol at the foot of my screen indicates "Snow to stop", which is ironic as it has not yet started!

Steady snow now falling here at zero celsius for the past half hour, and readily settling of course. We seem to be on the edge of a front lying across Sussex and Kent which sneaked up the Channel and has produced 4 inches of lying snow in the past two hours. To be fair, this was forecast. Temperatures not expected to recover to the averages until next Sunday.

No snow overnight, and above low-level swirling mist there is blue sky and sun. Not quite as cold last night and temps now at or just above 0, possibly helped by the airflow going round to SE. I shall continue to admire the garden frosting from indoors - last night I discovered I had a temperature nudging 38C,(knew I had a bug didn't realise I had a fever too) and it's only a little lower now. I don't feel feverish, but the cold sets off the horrendous cough that has developed so fresh air will have to wait.
BBM, any news on your heating?

Here the temperature has just nudged above freezing point, as indicated by snow melting on pathways and the garage driveway, and falling off trees; but it's going to take some time to shift the 3 odd centimetres we had last night. Mild even by average standards by Sunday as wind and rain sweep in from the west, but at the moment there's 50/50 chance of a white Xmas, even down here. I've only just started work on Xmas cards - more hope over reality, and in all probability the post box will be crammed. There was no sunshine to warm the other side of the flat this morning, so I'm now going to switch on the central heating.
