It has provided an opportunity to look in the loft now that the roof work is complete to see if there are any wet bits; all looking good so far, fingers crossed that continues.
Edit: from reports it would seem that it was in fact thunder I heard this morning at around 8 am.Last edited by Serial_Apologist; 06-11-22, 15:17.

Fitful sun and very windy today but also mild. The wind and lack of rain will help clear away the results of the very large quantity of rain in recent days. The considerable growth of field crops will have helped reduce the problem of field run-off, but on the downside all that soft growth isn't so good for going into winter - vulnerable to disease and physical damage.

Shower number 5 for thus far today, and this one a really big, extensive cloudburst, very gusty and dark enough for lights on indoors. Surprised not to have heard any thunder yet - S. Wales is getting plenty of that at the moment. Exciting from the point of view of the weather observer, but a damned nuisance because I need to get out for some provisions, and the dry interludes are just not long enough to avoid getting soaked!

The above has now moved away to the NE - it wouldn't surprise me if we had not had more than an inch of rain so far today. There appears to be a particularly intense storm in the area of Brighton and Worthing as i write. Fortunately that will be moving NE across poor Kent, and missing us. The sun's out once more and there's a sizeable break to the south west, so I'd better now make the most of this and wade my bike up the hill to Upper Norwood for those groceries, through the inevitable puddles.
Edit Some of those "puddles" were a foot deep, and some were almost stretched right across the Crystal Palace Parade - which is at the TOP of the highest point in this part of S London! Noticeable temperature drop from those showers, from just below 15C at noon to 10C as of now.Last edited by Serial_Apologist; 08-11-22, 15:13.

Thanks everyone. We have some settled weather, today. Maybe some showers later. Our rec. ground, which we live next door too, is seriously flooded. Although I haven’t been out, due to the bad weather. Having said that, I had to go for a hospital appointment, for a routine test. Hopefully, that be ok.Don’t cry for me

Mrs G and I went to a very interesting talk in our village hall last night. The presenter was a (sometime) yachtsman and a glider pilot. His topic was the History of Weather Forecasting.
As well as a thoroughly informative talk he introduced us to some rather good apps:
The first was on the Met Office website - the recently introduced rain maps are excellent and show real time radar data together with predicted rain patterns at 15 minute intervals for the next three days and 3 hour intervals for the following two days.
The other one he showed, which is used by sailors and glider pilots was Ventusky which gives a fantastic overview of both local and worldwide weather, both at 2m above ground and in layers up to 30,000m - hours of fun for all the family!
