Just played tennis for first time since hip op with three other chaps of advanced age. We battled against those north winds but pleasantly sunny. Got on OK ....but noticed the other hip playing up.

Good to hear that the hip is up to playing tennis Gurney. How long since the op ?

Op was Aug 15th. All went very smoothly. NHS but private hospital and only about 8 months from referral to op.

Still considerably warmer than the long term average for the time of year, I'll be bound!

They predicted this morning's thunderstorms... which just skirted london to the NW! Watching the spherics appearing on the lightning maps screen I was up and looking to the NW, but no sign of the flashes taking place just outside the M25 because low stratus was in the way; the thunder was too far away to be audible. What we've had is continuous light to moderate rain in the tail of the MCS producing the storms, which have moved north and are now just off the Yorkshire coast. The cloud types were so confusing that I just put a cumulonimbus symbol on my midday weather diary record, thinking that should, er, cover it!

There has hardly been any wind at all throughout the morning, and the very high humidity is making it feel very stuffy, almost like a just vacated shower cubicle!

Ironically the wind changed as soon as Ms Truss announced her resignation!

From a south-easterly to a south-westerly. Neither better nor worse then!

Only light showers thus far here, though some of that heavy rain is expected to reach here sometime before the evening rush hour, so I'd better be getting my daily walk underway without delay. Once more it's incredibly warm for this late in the year - expected to reach 19C in London, with added enhancement from the high humidity levels. Sunday threatens to be very wet in all areas, and pretty windy as well, as wiggling fronts meander their way around the big parent low presently located to the SW, but with the circulation in logjam keeping colder winds in the western Atlantic at bay it should remain warm, very fortunately.

A dreary start to the day, with mist taking its time to clear and then being replaced by not quite drizzle - the sort of thing that can't be bothered to actually fall but just collects on surfaces - from low clouds. At midday the sun manage to flit in and out and the cloud lifted a bit and the temperature went up enough to get rather too warm walking back from town, getting to 17 then peaking at 18 degrees at 3pm. A decision to put washing out and then a while later get the bus for supermarket shopping was the cue for proper rain to fall for a while. However it went over quickly, the sun came out properly and the breeze did a good job of drying things out - including the washing.
The scaffolding was removed while I was out and the difference in interior light levels is significant, and warmth from the sun is also able to get in.

Absolutely vile here, heavy downpours interspersed with lighter rain.
                              Better tomorrow hopefully.
