Just back from a walk - cooler owing perhaps to less sun today so far, but still still.

My cat turns around several times before settling on a low wall away from the cool wind and eventually sits facing the sun whilst I groom him. A pleasant Autumn day.

Beautiful day, but here I am stuck indoors trying to re-register my internet provider without success - for some reason their system won't accept either my debit card details or my password: the ones they have from 2 years ago. I shall probably go out this afternoon just to relieve mounting stress and make the most of the warm sunshine - there won't be many more days like this, if any this year. Why oh why does modern life constantly throw these problems at us? We all thought this was the whole purpose of IT etc etc - bring back the halcyon days when matters such as paying for things were straightforward!

The meteorological guys forecasted the weather wrong! We had plans to have a saunter around in a nearby town, after going to The Vampire Clinic, so as it’s raining, we hope to do that Wednesday!

Well they did forecast rain for here, clearing by midday, which is what happened. Clear skies, drop in temperatures with the switch to a nor'westerly, and possibly a bit too much breeze for a ride alongside the Ravensbourne - maybe tomorrow then.

Not a cloud in the sky earlier on my walk. Some now but still sunny.

Yes, wall to wall sunshine here and coming into my listening room all day long meaning that I've not had to put the heating on, the indoor temperature being 21 degrees.

As I've said on here before, it's annoying that the sun shines on my books and CDs but I've now devised adequate cover for them without resorting to bringing down the blind. Didn't want to lose all that free warmth!

I've got scaffolding up for work being done on the roof and the boards shut out a great deal of the sun I would normally get upstairs. Very noticeable in my west facing bedroom which at this time of year would usually get nice and warm during the afternoon on a day like today when the sun is well out. Having a lot of the light blocked adds to the perception of chill, and both things are a demonstration of how simple design considerations can play a part in regulating the conditions inside a home. Deep reveals or an "eyebrow" over the window can deflect the summer sun as it's high in the sky, but allow in the lower angle cooler season sun.
It was a miserable start to the day - very wet - but it soon cleared (before the builders got to work) and out of the rather nippy NW breeze has been pleasantly mild.

Bits of cloud sporadically but in general unbroken blue sky.
23.5C in living room, with window open!
Much, much cooler in back garden (shaded by three-storey house effect!).
Blinds down to protect some artwork from fading, but lifted as soon as the sun has moved/got high enough (depending on season) to get best benefit from its warmth.
No jacket needed on walk through park to the local International Store (cheaper for things such as red lentils!).

A planning notice has been fixed to a lamp post around the corner from me announcing plans for 14 solar panels on a private property. The house is pretty posh - an example of 1920s rural neo-vernacular Georgian, with hipped roof and tall square chimneys beneath the triple meeting points at each end of the building, very much in the style of smart houses in Welwyn Garden City. I'd be surprised if this goes through, having learned (on an historical guided walk a few years ago) that Dulwich College Estates oppose such things, which also include Sky dishes, as they would alter the appearance of roofs in their district, unless it is to properties built since their introduction to the street-scape. If this goes ahead it will represent a change on DCE's part which I said, at the time, was well overdue. Sadly I don't think it could be done for everyone living in our block, which consists of 5 ground floor flats and 9 upstairs 2-storey maisonettes. Two of the latter are, on the strength of the application, applying to install Velux windows as part of intended loft conversions, on grounds that they will not obtrude from the slope angle of the roof; we'll have to see if this gets permission.

Wasn’t yesterday, like a game if football? Awful first half, great second half?

Great weather here (Lake District) here all day yesterday...

... as to football - all awful. Don't know how it got branded the beautiful game!

Cold overnight - some places will have had frost - and despite the unbroken sun it has taken a while to warm up - the breeze has a niggly coolth about it. A lovely autumn day though, and standing at the bus stop each end of my shopping trip was no hardship. I think a bit of pottering in the garden is called for now - not least another grass cut now the sun has mostly dried the damp.

Yes, the coolness is very apparent the moment one gets a move on! - the sun's heat is still remarkably strong considering we're now 3 weeks into the winter half of the year - I could have sunbathed here yesterday afternoon! Thursday's weather the forecasters can't make up their minds about - will there be substantial rainfall for the south? - difficulties in reconciling the main Atlantic jet's erratic momentum's effect in slowing the eastward movement of primary lows towards Scotland with weakly developing lows coursing in from the south west towards the Channel.

A lovely day, so far. Let’s hope it continues. Have to go to the Vampire Clinic, later on, in readiness for my regular quarterly appointment with my cancer doc.
