Just back from a walk - cooler owing perhaps to less sun today so far, but still still.

Beautiful day, but here I am stuck indoors trying to re-register my internet provider without success - for some reason their system won't accept either my debit card details or my password: the ones they have from 2 years ago. I shall probably go out this afternoon just to relieve mounting stress and make the most of the warm sunshine - there won't be many more days like this, if any this year. Why oh why does modern life constantly throw these problems at us? We all thought this was the whole purpose of IT etc etc - bring back the halcyon days when matters such as paying for things were straightforward!

As I've said on here before, it's annoying that the sun shines on my books and CDs but I've now devised adequate cover for them without resorting to bringing down the blind. Didn't want to lose all that free warmth!"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

It was a miserable start to the day - very wet - but it soon cleared (before the builders got to work) and out of the rather nippy NW breeze has been pleasantly mild.

Bits of cloud sporadically but in general unbroken blue sky.
23.5C in living room, with window open!
Much, much cooler in back garden (shaded by three-storey house effect!).
Blinds down to protect some artwork from fading, but lifted as soon as the sun has moved/got high enough (depending on season) to get best benefit from its warmth.
No jacket needed on walk through park to the local International Store (cheaper for things such as red lentils!).

Having a lot of the light blocked adds to the perception of chill, and both things are a demonstration of how simple design considerations can play a part in regulating the conditions inside a home. Deep reveals or an "eyebrow" over the window can deflect the summer sun as it's high in the sky, but allow in the lower angle cooler season sun.

Cold overnight - some places will have had frost - and despite the unbroken sun it has taken a while to warm up - the breeze has a niggly coolth about it. A lovely autumn day though, and standing at the bus stop each end of my shopping trip was no hardship. I think a bit of pottering in the garden is called for now - not least another grass cut now the sun has mostly dried the damp.
