Blustery showers here today, which is unusual in a straight nor'wester, however strong, in this relatively sheltered part of the country. The one currently going through isn't quite in the heavy category but I'm glad I wasn't caught out in it; and the temperature has fallen from 15C to 11C in a matter of minutes.

14C and sunny here. There was a bit of sun during my walk earlier but my brolly was required for the last five minutes of the walk.

Cold and windy wit showers off and on - not pleasant. There was an odd rainbow effect mid afternoon when the sun briefly showed up. A low in the sky rather flattened bow with a broad band of colour had some way above it a narrow high arching double. Usually double rainbows here are the same shape and size, the main difference being strength of colour, with the duplicate being fainter.

          Nasty, v.wet, v.cold NW winds.

The lower the sun's angle, the higher the rainbow's arc, or arcs.

Which is why I thought it odd to have two different shapes, although perhaps the distance between the two made it seem as if the arcs were different when in fact they weren't?
Down to 4 degrees overnight. I had the heating on for a couple of hours as although the house hadn't gone below 18 the creeping cold damp outside had got to me when I came back from a meeting early evening and was making joints and muscles sore.
Should be less damp today in terms of showers but staying cold.

Already had one here. Friday looks decidedly dodgy - after which we go into a very normal-looking westerly régime for a change, with temperatures reverting to what they should be at the start of October.

All over the place: sunny now, lots of rain earlier - cloud, wind etc.

Not me - I'm staying put!!!

Actually that's not quite true - I have to go out now and pick up my prescription or, who knows? - I could be dead tomorrow, and who then would write my regular weekend jazz preview?

Need to go for a walk before it rains.

Fog/mist lifted but likely to be raining when out later (coffee/cake charity event at local sports club). Going with neighbour to suss out as a possible venue for her 40th birthday party. Nice to have such young neighbours.

Very cold overnight but little murk early on so the sun has been in evidence from the off. The sky is getting more hazy/clouded though and this afternoon is apparently set to be very unpleasant - high winds and heavy rain - so best get outside things done this morning.
Yesterday was a glorious warm sunny autumn day of the kind that does so much to lift the spirits - very much needed at present. I had a gardening job left over from my Wednesday volunteer slot and it was a real pleasure to be on site with the gardens and the buildings looking attractive, and the two school groups in were of the well behaved attentive sort - unlike Wednesday's lot who were a real pain even for those, such as visitors and volunteers, who weren't involved with them directly.

We have a road trip Southwards this afternoon - looks to be wet, wet, wet. Still at least we will avoid the yellow rain (warning) that Southern and Western Scotland has...
