Thunderstorms made landfall about a couple of hours ago, and are now processing north westwards across the West Country and into S Wales. Most of it is being reported as elevated - plenty of lightning with muffled thunder, but a few very heavy downpours too.

Heavy downpour here all night (I think, having woken up in the middle of the night) and still a bit of rain now.

Several hours of rain here as well, and the wind had dropped so most of it managed to make landfall in a helpful fashion - the garden is thoroughly and uniformly damp. I don't think the tomato plants were impressed with their first outside sleepover in the hardening off process... I'm glad I kept the very tender items in yesterday - the very strong cold dry wind during the day doesn't do large tender leaves any good and added to the cold wet night would probably have sent the melons and cucumbers into a terminal decline.
Some events planned for today have apparently been modified or partly cancelled due to yellow weather warnings but looking at the forecast now some of that will possibly seem like overkill - but it will be cold, and in some places probably pretty wet later in the day depending on what happens with the band of weather crossing the region. Typical Bank Holiday weather in fact, frustrating for those very many folk who were working on the actual BHs and were perhaps hoping for weekend fun.

Very hard to see if thunderstorms predicted again for this evening actually happen - too much low-level clag to be able to see what's going on where it matters. A change to more changeable weather looks likely for some time to come, with much-needed rain for some areas and temperatures generally where they should be in early June.

Well, up here it is SERIOUSLY cold.

Not much better here in the Midlands. Currently 11 degrees and so chilly indoors that the heating is on. We had the vicious, gusty wind yesterday and it's much calmer today.

Well I'm not going to grumble abut the further rain last night and this morning, heaven knows it is needed, but the cold and the wind are another matter.
Trying to motivate myself to get out in the grey cold for shopping and other errands and not succeeding. If I walk into town I can get everything done at once (assuming Morrison's have what I want) and the exercise would be good. Alternatively I could wait 40 mins or so and catch the bus which drops off outside the triumvirate of Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, which would guarantee getting all the shopping done, but the other bits would have to be done separately - perhaps tomorrow when the weather is due to be much better.
I am not a very decisive person at the best of times and this is not one of those...

Late tomorrow and into Wednesday brings quit a strong frontal system across the country from SW to NE, reaching Scotland by Weds afternoon, I estimate. After which another unseasonably deep low takes up residence to the NW of the UK, the remnants of the first tropical low of 2022 to form off the N American eastern seaboard. Which should keep winds quite strong and in the SW quadrant, with showers on and off and resulting temperatures reaching the low 20s in the SE and about 5 degs less further north and west. Once more it appears to be turning into "one of those summers", I fear.

Well I suppose as there aren't any people to pick the fruit then it won't matter if it gets mashed, ripped off the plants, or succumbs to wet and warmth induced ills...

Hope it's not coming this way. Cloudy and a little too breezy here right now but, apart from overnight rain, it's remained dry and reasonably sunny if still a little cool for early June.

Well the cap has broken here, revealing a few anvil tops way to the south, and nice cumulus growth nearer to hand, but as yet no showers. Sun very hot in the clear maritme air. Might sprawl myself out on the "West Lawn" a bit later.

The rain didn't last *too* long, though it was heavy. Sunny now.
