Continuous rain here since lunchtime - it really has set in. I was hoping the cloud would break this afternoon. The irony is that we were really needing rain here, everything had become so parched. Such a shame for the many outdoor events taking place this weekend as part of the local festival.

Yes it's thundering away like Billy-O down the West Country at the moment, and approaching ominously in our direction, so I expect to be in for an interrupted night.

No thunder for us, yesterday, maybe today?

Yes, I heard some substantial thunderclaps lying in bed about midnight and checking the app, I could see there were a lot of storms arounds.

Grey and murky here after overnight rain. Not particularly warm and feeling quite cool especially indoors.

Isn't any of this coming our way?

I heard what I assumed were fireworks at around 10.30 pm. About 2 minutes later a massive thunderclap, very close by, forced me to reconsider the source of the earlier sounds.

It managed 25C earlier - the warmest day so far this year, as predicted - before cloud started moving in from the west and a breeze picked up. Still a very pleasant 23C here, though.

Two more thundery episodes expected - one tonight, the other tomorrow night, with a third possible on Friday, before the weather patterns turn more "zonal", with winds coming in from the west rather than up from Spain over the weekend. It should still be quite warm - long-term London averages max out at 16C midway through May - but probably more unsettled.

23 degrees C - too hot, mate; it's not natural, is it?

A mere 21C this afternoon in N Wilts, where rain has just arrived.

We must be the only country in the world that considers 23 degrees C to be a heatwave

Not had anything near that here but a fair bit of heavy rain between 11am and 2pm!

It actually reached 23C this afternoon here - enjoyed a pleasant 16 mile round cycle trip, including a stop off at the Faith Café (as it's now called) in Ladywell Park. Nice chat with a Welsh couple, I'd guess in their mid-70s, taking care of a grandson, aged around 11. Fairly intense thunderstorms now approaching slowly from the west - heavy rain just starting, the lightning still 30 miles to the west and south west - Horsham apparently under it, so BBM is in the vicinity!
