Aren't candles dangerous and old fashioned? I have a couple of flashlights handy, one upstairs and one downstairs, ready for any potential power cuts.

I had a teddy to take to bed with me, but each to his own.
I favour the old-fashioned nightlight on a saucer for kitchen and bathroom and on the hearth (if the woodburner isn't on) in a power cut, with a torch for moving about. I've charged up the old flashlight and there is also one of those permanently plugged in portable emergency lights in the bedroom. The drawback to that one is that it is so bright that the one time it came on in anger during the night it woke me up; the power cut was brief and I didn't need to be awake but the shock of the sudden wakening meant I couldn't get back to sleep.
Good luck for Friday everyone, hope you all stay safe.

Little push-button led lights (powered by 3 frexhly charged AAA NiMHs) serve me well.

I was awake shortly after 6am and was puzzled at the lack of weather noise. There was some intermittent light rain, but the wind was no more than a slight breeze which oddly seemed more worrying than if it had been blowing . Half an hour later that all changed; the rain cleared and the wind became very evident and has been increasing ever since. There might be more rain shortly, and the wind will peak at lunchtime it's reckoned. I've turned the heating up to get the house warm in case the power goes off later and I've got soup and stew ready to heat to go into thermos flasks - trying to second guess how late I can risk leaving the heating in order to get the longest benefit!

Very windy here now, after a quieter than expected start.

Don’t mind if it calms down soon !

Glorious sunshine, blue sky with a few fluffy bits, mild - and ever increasing wind. I've edited the garden as far as I can so now it's a case of hoping for the best.

Quite breezy and bright here at the moment - nice for a walk. Rain scheduled shortly however and max mean windspeed at 1700h of 32mph, gusting to 54mph. Weather warning of wind upto 1800h - our former yellow snow warning has retreated Northwards...
