Indeed not! - though personally I would have kept my trousers on! This is the first time I can remember having no need for central heating at this time of the year - mine has been off for 3 days now.

Somehow I don't think we will now be getting any of the record-breaking high daytime maxima - I believe it peaked yesterday and on Wednesday at 15 C on each day; today it has not exceeded 14 C despite sunshine having broken through. Tomorrow is expected to be windier, and a cold front will be passing through in the early afternoon, further pegging the temperature. No doubt the fireworks merchants will go ape tonight, the temperatures being expected to stay high, encouraging people out.

Westerly up here is keeping things .... erm.... less 'summery'.

SUN - hoorah. It was forecast but that depended on overnight activity so I didn't count on it. Blue sky, fluffy white clouds, bit breezy but mild with it. A bit of garden pottering after the NYD concert appeals, before the cloud takes over again.

First rainbow of the year this morning, and a full one - brilliant!

That’s fabulous to see! It’s rather a dull day today. Most likely to be showery, I reckon. At the moment, 11C! Stupid temps for this time of year.

Mild, cloudy and dry enough to get the last of the tulips planted.

Temperatures probably won't be exceeding 12 C from today for the forseeable, so on went the central heating once more this morning.

When a milky halo-surrounded sun shrinks down to a blob timidly shining through light greyness you can be pretty sure a frontal system is approaching. This is a depression, coming in from the SW and expected to cross N France en route for the southern Baltic tomorrow, so its rain zone edge is expected only to affect areas bordering the S coast today. However another frontal system advances south-east through tomorrow, reaching the home counties by midday as a line of rain, followed by strong winds and falling temperatures as the air stream switches to a nor'westerly, bringing a couple of cold windy showery days, especially to Scotland and the NW where snow can be predicted over hilltops. The rest of the week will consist in a breezy westerly with passing frontal systems, courtesy a very deep low positioning itself between the tip of Greenland and Iceland. Temperatures should be around normal (max 7 C, min 3 C here), and I can't see any severe weather on the horizon, as yet. It all looks surprisingly normal!

A brief spell of rain at the end of my walk didn't ruin the bright cloudless sky I enjoyed for most of it, here in East Staffordshire. No jacket required.

                                Cloudless??????????????? Blimey!!
Here - cold, and getting colder - earlier fiercely driven rain. And we are braced for the Arctic flow later.
