There's some weird orb in the sky emitting light that we haven't seen here for a while. And it's dry (though was raining again this morning, it stopped before I set off on a walk).

Meanwhile, here in the "driest" part of the country... It's been grey all day and raining much of the time. Not as windy as expected thankfully, nor as cold as it might have been. Wednesday looks like more of the same, possibly with knobs on as far as rain and wind. Oh joy.

Better today up at the wood-wall with the fierce east wind abated.....
        Many more Fieldfares......chak-a-chak, chak-chak-chak...!

Very flighty, keeping their distance from the footpaths...moving swiftly from field to copse...to the next field and the next...

8C today....13 tomorrow, with drizzle...? The local birdlife will move on once again...

Down sourf, Argerich’s dismal. Heavy showers, intermittent dry spells.

            But mild, though!

(No new Radio Times! The Xmas edition runs out on Friday - how can I publicise next week's jazz broadcasts here??)

Mild indeed. It came as rather a shock when I went out early afternoon as the house had become quite chilly with the constant wet outside. The cloud did break up just before the end of the "daylight" hours to give hints of something more interesting than dirty cottonwool but didn't quite make it to blue sky let alone sight of the sun. Less wind than forecast which was good.

Are they not on their schedules?

A rather dull day, drizzle and 13C!

I think I prefer cold and bright to dull and mild - 9.45am but struggling to be light!

Yes, the temperature did not go lower than 13 C in London last night - that's 1 degree above minima averages for the warmest time of the year!!! Someone has messaged on the UKWW site to say that someone should remind the weather that this is the end of December! At least it shortens the winter while it lasts, though make the most of it because it's all change to colder conditions next Tuesday as a deep low crosses to the north, whisking the warm sector away and reverting us to a northerly type for a few days, at least.

The mildness I find disconcerting, partly because it isn't, as previously noted, reflected in comfort indoors, but also because it "just ain't right" for this time of year. Like cloughie I would prefer cold and bright - a bit of sun makes everything so much better and easier to cope with. There's more than enough greyness in the news and day to day living without the weather adding to it. My lightbulbs may be low energy ( know the feeling!) but having them on all day everyday still adds up.

It's begun to feel significantly warmer indoors now as we reach the late evening and I've turned the heating off. I also have low energy bulbs and think the cost of them being on all day is probably negligible. Now put on the florescent lights in the kitchen and you really do notice a difference! Currently 14 degrees outside and 21 degrees indoors.

                          They heat as well?

Not as well as incandescent bulbs.
Very wet first thing, but brightening up now - cloud breaking to hint at blue sky underneath. Whether we'll get a welcome glimpse of sun remains to be seen - we can but hope. Remains mild, but is also very windy.

Modern large-screen televisions, especially the plasma variety, are quite good at keeping the chill off, too. I notice that Tesco are selling off LED sets with the poorest energy efficiency rating at the moment, so I guess they make fairly good heaters, too.

It's been sunny here since some time before 11.

Had to strip to my tee-shirt on my walk. I don't recall having to do that ever before in December...
